Happy New Year, everyone!

Tomorrow is my first official day working as a Child Life Specialist. While I know I’m going to be getting oriented for a couple of weeks or so, I can’t help but feel so nervous! and excited! Tomorrow will mark exactly 1 month since I finished my internship so I haven’t been out of the hospital routine for too long. I still can’t believe I’ve been given this amazing opportunity & I’m so thankful for everyone that’s helped me along the way. My whole road to child life took me a little over one year:

Spring 2012: Graduated from college with my bachelor’s degree

Fall 2012: Volunteered with the child life department at a children’s hospital & took “intro to child life” online

Spring 2013: Practicum

Fall 2013: Internship

Spring 2014: Job!

Best of luck to all of you out there starting volunteering/practicums/internships/jobs this Spring! Remember I always encourage my readers to e-mail me (dvm10c@gmail.com) with any thoughts or questions about child life, I’d love to help out fellow child life-ers out there in any way that I can.

  1. Congratulations! Take a few deep breaths and enjoy this new chapter. Even after the preparation of internship, starting a new job can feel a little overwhelming. Remember to take a few moments for yourself each day for play and self-care! You are going to make a big difference in the experience of the children and families you serve.

    • Zoe,
It is definitely overwhelming! It kind of feels like going bowling without the bumpers on. I do have a lot of support from my fellow child life girls and I am so excited to settle in! Thank you for your kind words 🙂
